During the holiday season Nintendo has received many questions and inquiries concerning Nintendo Account and Nintendo Network ID from Japanese consumers.
Things have become so bad that the company had to formally announce on Twitter that there’s a support page outlining the differences between both account systems.
In case you were wondering what the differences between Nintendo Account and Nintendo Network ID are, Nintendo Network ID is used for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U to access online services, purchase free content on the eShop, and used to access the now defunct Miiverse.
Nintendo Account is used on Nintendo Switch to access online services, the eShop, and earn points on My Nintendo. Connecting a My Nintendo account to smartphone apps such as Miiverse and Super Mario Run allow users to earn points on the My Nintendo program too. You can connect your Nintendo Network ID (3DS/Wii U) to Nintendo Account to earn points from 3DS and Wii U purchases.
