MariCar Operator Now Ordered To Pay Nintendo $460k In Mario Kart Lawsuit
Previously, we reported that Nintendo finally won its lawsuit against MARI Mobility Development Co., Ltd – which was infringing on Nintendo’s Mario Kart IP in order to advertise its own go-kart business. Now, it looks like penalties are in order – and the price just got steeper than ever.
Originally, the court had ordered MARI Mobility to pay Nintendo 10 million yen (about $92k). However, that compensation was recently increased to a whopping 50 million yen (around $460k). It’s hardly chump change.
As the details of the case are still in Japanese, it’s not entirely clear why the penalty amount was increased. Also, we’ll have to wait and see how MARI Mobility responds to this court ruling.
We’ll report back if and when we hear more about this situation.
