Last week, Nintendo announced a paid Booster Course Pass for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which will add a number of new remastered courses to the game over the next few years.
For those who may be unable to purchase the pass, Nintendo has since confirmed that the new courses will be playable online even by those who do not own the DLC. This was confirmed via the game’s official website, which states the following about Wave 1 of the DLC:
Courses from wave 1 of the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass can be played from March 18th locally or online in Friends and Rivals races, even if only one player owns the Booster Course Pass or has access to it as part of a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. From March 22nd, courses from wave 1 will also appear in the Random selection when playing Global or Regional races with anyone online.
Essentially, what this means is that players who do not own the DLC will eventually be able to experience the maps via random online play, or by connecting to a friend who does own the DLC. Although this news is probably not entire unexpected, its good to know that everyone can get to enjoy the maps in some form, without getting left behind.
