During Masahiro Sakurai’s visit to Atlus, the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director shared the things he liked about the Persona video games and why he liked them.
First, Sakurai revealed that his favorite element of the Persona series is the All-Out Attack system. He likes the system as it’s simple to get to by exploiting weaknesses. The director also noted games created by Atlus are long and include lots of content.
Another element Sakurai appreciates Persona games for are their UI (user interface) and color themes for each game. When asked which character he likes the most in Persona 5, Sakurai said he loves all of them. Despite his busy development schedule with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the director managed to complete the main cast Confidants, with the exception of Yusuke.
The reason why Sakurai he didn’t get to complete Yusuke is because he did not expect the game to end in in-game December instead of in-game March, so he had no time to complete his Confidant. Still, Yusuke is one of Sakurai’s favorite characters.
One thing Sakurai hopes is Atlus will make their games “half as long as they are now”, but he knows it wouldn’t be possible as Atlus titles tend to have a lot of content. Lastly, Sakurai revealed he will always take the time to complete his library of Persona and Etrian Odyssey games, even though they require two times more time than other titles. He’s making time to play Persona Q2 during the holiday season.
