Meltan’s Alternate Form Is An Evolution, Both Pokemon Are Generation 7
Following the reveal of Meltan and its other form, Pokemon GO dataminers have discovered new details about Meltan and its second form.
In the latest Pokemon GO Update, dataminers discovered two new cry files. ID 891 is for Meltan, and ID 892 is for Meltan’s other form. According to Serebii webmaster Joe Merrick, this means it is safe to say that Meltan’s other form is an evolution, and not something else. Shaymin, which has two forms, has two cries listed under ID 492.
So definitely safe to say our nutty friend here is an evolution, not a form.
In the new GO files, the cry heard in the trailer is listed with the asset ID of 892 (891 already confirmed to be the ASSET ID for Meltan) while Shaymin is listed with two under 492

We’ve also learned that Meltan may not be Pokemon No. 891 after all. Merrick says after the release of Genesect, The Pokemon Company went with a random numbering system for its art assets. For example, the first Generation 6 Pokemon start at 701 (Furfrou), all the way to 774 (Hoopa).
He also states that since Meltan and its evolution are designated No. 891 and No. 892 respectively, both Pokemon are part of Generation 7. If they were part of Generation 8, they would have an ID between 900 and 999, if that pattern was to be followed.
