Metroid Dread Has Become The Bestselling Metroid Game Ever

Last year, Metroid Dread made its debut on the Nintendo Switch as the first brand-new 2D Metroid game in 19 years – revitalizing the franchise for young and old fans alike. Well, the massive fanfare for the game seems to have finally borne fruit, as it just broke a new series record recently!

Nintendo has published their latest earnings release for the fiscal year ending on 31 March 2022 – which reveals that Metroid Dread has sold over 2.9 million copies worldwide. This makes it the bestselling Metroid game of all time, surpassing the Metroid Prime (which was the previous bestselling game with 2.84 million copies sold).

Of course, more copies have probably moved off store shelves between 31 March 2022 and now – so there’s a good chance we’ll still see Metroid Dread continue to rise gradually in sales numbers, perhaps even past 3 million copies soon!

What do you think? Have you dived into Metroid Dread? Feel free to share below!
