Metroid Prime 1–3: A Visual Retrospective Artbook Releases October 28th 2025

Nintendo has announced they are releasing an artbook for the Metroid Prime Trilogy.

The artbook is produced in collaboration with Retro Studios, and will be releasing on October 28th 2025. It includes extensive behind the scenes artwork as well as commentary from producer Kensuke Tanabe and Retro Studios. A  29-page preview for the book can be found via Nintendo’s news post here.

Among the commentary included in the book are quotes from Tanabe about Metroid Prime Remastered, where he discusses scrapped plans for brand new cutscenes for the title, as well as how Retro Studios’ work on the remaster directly led to them being chosen to take over development of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

“When the project first started, Retro proposed an idea regarding cutscenes — that we create entirely new ones. The prototype cutscene they presented was undeniably impressive, with a high level of quality. However, I came to the decision to closely observe the cutscenes from the GameCube version and replicate them essentially as they were. The cutscenes were not created solely for dramatic effect; they also played a role in conveying gameplay-relevant information to the player. Each scene was carefully crafted with this purpose in mind. Retro demonstrated exceptional professionalism and fully adhered to this direction.

“That led to the rekindling of our relationship with Retro, which eventually led to our involvement in the development of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. So there’s no doubt that this title was a turning point for both Retro and myself.”
