Microsoft: “We Have No Plans To Further Expand Our Exclusive First Party Games To Other Consoles”

Could the glowing relationship between Nintendo and Microsoft be coming to a halt? A new statement from Microsoft may suggest as much.

In a new interview with Gameindustry.biz, Microsoft commented more on recent efforts to expand its own exclusive library on the Xbox ecosystem. It seems however, that this new focus may divert its attention away from bringing more Microsoft-exclusive games to other consoles.

“The past year has been an exciting time for us as we have more than doubled the internal creative teams making up Xbox Game Studios. As these new studios transitioned in, we were aware of some existing commitments to other platforms and will honor them. However, going forward these new studios will focus on making games for our platforms. We have no plans to further expand our exclusive first party games to other consoles. We continue to believe deeply in cross play and progression of games with the right flexibility for developers to insure a fair and fun experience.”

Whether this is in reference to games like Cuphead or Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition getting Nintendo Switch ports is currently unknown. If Microsoft’s statement is true, this may spell the end of other awesome Microsoft titles on Switch in the future. We sure hope not.

We’ll report back if and when we hear more. Stay tuned.
