Comcept, the company founded by Keiji Inafune and the developer of Mighty No.9, has shut down.
This information was published in the Japanese government gazette Kanpo, revealing that the company had been dissolved by shareholder resolution on January 13th 2026. This news comes 9 years after the company was acquired by Level-5, and 2 years after founder Keiji Inafune split from Level-5 himself.
Comcept was most infamous for Kickstarting the game Mighty No.9, intended to be a spiritual successor to Mega Man, whom Inafune had a hand in creating while at Capcom. The project experienced significant troubles during development, resulting the game releasing to widespread disappointment and mockery. It seems the company ultimately never recovered from this failure, resulting in its current closure.
