Earlier this week, The Super Mario Bros. Movie finally premiered in theatres, the first new feature film based of one of Nintendo’s first party franchises in a very very long time.
Although the success of the film is still yet to be seen, many are wondering if it could herald a new era of Nintendo movie adaptations, with The Legend Of Zelda and Metroid being among popular picks.
In a recent interview with GameInformer, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto said that they would want to ensure that the content is “really good and enjoyable” before announcing anything, and they do not have anything to share for the “near future”.
You probably know that we have Nintendo Pictures now as a group. Whenever we create games, that’s one form of content. And when we create animation, that’s another form of content. And we want to continue to expand the amount of content that we can produce. In terms of announcing or sharing anything, I try to hold off until there’s something really good and enjoyable. So, there’s probably nothing to announce in the near future, so I ask you to put all your focus in this movie currently. [Laughs]
