After Shigeru Miyamoto was named by the Japanese government as a person who made outstanding cultural contributions, Japanese paper Nikkei interviewed the creator of Super Mario and Link.
In the interview, Miyamoto said he still has one goal he has yet to accomplish – making Mario as popular as Disney’s Mickey Mouse. He wonders how many years it would be before he could fulfill his dream.
The creator also mentioned that he wants to find new ways to entertain and make the world smile. Nikkei names Super Nintendo World, opening in 2020 in Japan, and the upcoming Super Mario movie launching in 2022 as ways to boost Mario’s popularity and entertainment value.
