In a new article published by Mojang, the company revealed how they designed the New Nintendo 2DS XL Creeper Edition, now available in Europe and Japan.
Lydia Winters, an employee at Mojang, was in charge of coming up with the designs for a Minecraft theme New 2DS XL. Initial ideas include a dirt block, which was done for the Xbox One, and showing the items in front such as a sword and pickaxe. They ended up with the iconic Creeper green and pixelation to make the console stand out.
Winters also revealed that it wasn’t easy to align the pixels on the cover of the New 2DS XL, as the cover is supposed to protect the hardware inside the console. Here’s what she has to say about the daunting task:
“We had to go back and forth around how far down the pixels could go because the cover needs to protect the hardware inside. Pixels seem simple, but making sure they are all aligned is a constant struggle. Silly pixels!”
