Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Will Not Have Village Quests, Will Receive Several Title Updates After Launch

Capcom has revealed some new details about Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak, which is due to launch next month for Switch.

Firstly, it has been confirmed that the Sunbreak Expansion will not have any Village Quests, and will only have Master Rank Quests available. This information comes via an interview with Director Yoshitake Suzuki published by Famitsu. In this interview, Suzuki explained Master Rank Quests would function similarly to the Hub Quests in the base game, and can be completed solo or with other players. He also elaborated on the Follower Quests that will be introduced in Sunbreak, which appear to be somewhat of a replacement for Village Quests, allowing players who mostly play alone to enjoy the DLC.

In Monster Hunter, one of the biggest parts of the appeal is multiplayer. However, we do have players that mostly play single-player games, so we wanted to meet that need and created Rampage Quests in Monster Hunter Rise, which allowed characters from Kamura Village to help the player character. We thought that if players could take on hunts with unique characters, it would create a more enjoyable experience. For these reasons, we decided to create Follower Quests.

In a separate interview with Dengeki, Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto confirmed that Sunbreak will receive several title updates post-launch as well as event quests, similar to the base game. Although he was not able to elaborate on how many new monsters will be added, he did suggest that Sunbreak will receive a decent amount of updates, sharing the following statement:

It depends on the person as to what the term “long” means, but I’ll say that we are “planning to carry out several updates.”

The interview also dives a bit deeper into the origins of a few of the new monsters that appear in the DLC, including confirming the long-standing theory that Malzeno, Lunagaron, and Garangolm are inspired by the Vampire, Werewolf, and Frankenstein respectively. With this in mind, it is likely that any brand new monsters will be based on Western or European mythos, in contrast to the base game which mainly drew inspiration from Japanese myth. Stay tuned for more as it comes.
