In an interview with Famitsu, Sega Chief Contents Officer Hiroyuki Miyazaki shared more about what we can expect from the Mega Drive Mini in the coming months, ahead of its September 19 release.
According to Miyazaki, fans can expect three batches of information before E3 this year. One in the April 18 issue of Famitsu, and two in separate events or programs.
“The next fresh batch of information regarding the title lineup will be revealed in the April 18 issue of Famitsu. Video game magazines are what connected the fans and publishers during the golden age of the Mega Drive. So, it’s only fitting to have it announced in a video game magazine.”
“A while after that we’ll have 10 titles announced in a separate event/program, then another 10 at the end just before E3.”
Miyazaki also confirmed that there would be no Sega CD titles featured in this version of the mini-console, but a Sega CD mini may be considered if the Mega Drive Mini does well. As for a Sega Saturn Mini, it seems there is still a lot of planning to do before they can confirm anything.
That said, Miyazaki did hint that they might have something for the Tokyo Game Show 2019, although it is unclear if that has anything to do with future Sega mini consoles.
“Mega-CD (Sega CD) titles will not be in the mix. We might do a Sega CD Mini if the Mega Drive Mini sells a whoooole bunch, then just maybe.”
“As for a Sega Saturn Mini, the balance of cost and technology is still far from certain.”
“We might have a little something for Tokyo Game Show 2019.”
