It looks like the Mortal Kombat movie has exceeded expectations in the U.S. box office!
In what has now become the highest opening for an R-rated film since the start of the pandemic, Mortal Kombat managed to give distributors Warner Bros. a huge win, pulling in $22.5 million USD during its opening weekend in the U.S. and even narrowly defeating the Demon Slayer: Mugen Train anime film which earned $19.5 million during the same weekend. Coupled with the relatively positive reception it has received, Mortal Kombat could be said to be a successful video game movie.
