Warner Bros. Pictures Group has announced some major changes to its film release plans for 2021, which includes the new Mortal Kombat movie.
According to the news release, the Mortal Kombat movie, along with every other Warner Bros. Pictures film planned to release in 2021, will be distributed online via HBO Max in addition to debuting in theaters. The hybrid model is reportedly a “strategic response” to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in the United States.
To further elaborate, the film will be released simultaneously on HBO Max at the same time as it hits theaters, where it will remain accessible online for one month. Once this one month period has passed, the movie will leave HBO Max and continue its theatrical run in the US and other parts of the world.
