A very unusual piece of news about Fortnite has surfaced today in the United States.
The mother of Orange Shirt Kid, a young boy who submitted his popular “Orange Justice” dance to the BoogieDown contest, has sued Epic Games for including his dance in Fortnite in a free Battle Pass.
The lawsuit claims Epic Games incorporated the dance to the demands of Fortnite players after Orange Shirt Kid’s video “exploded in popularity” in 2018. It also claims that the boy had suffered “extreme cyberbullying” to the extent he had to close his Twitter and Instagram accounts.
Contrary to what the lawsuit claims, Orange Shirt Kid had submitted his dance to the BoogieDown contest, which explicitly states that entrants will not be compensated for their dance moves. In fact, the boy was delighted to see his dance appear in Fortnite.
The lawsuit against Epic Games will most likely be thrown out, as the terms and conditions of the BoogieDown contest state entrants will waive all rights to monetary compensation for the use of the dance, so the mother was probably trying her luck for some cash.
