Niantic Makes Changes Pokemon GO To Prevent Coronavirus spread

Pokémon Go, one of the largest Augmented Realty game in the world, is taking steps to minimize interactions that players have with one another this season.

Niantic is temporarily changing the rules of Pokemon GO to increase the safety of its players.

In a statement to Polygon, a Niantic representative said that the studio is currently “prioritizing updates to Pokémon GO features and experiences that can be enjoyed in individual settings.” Notably, the game will be increasing habitats so that trainers can see more monsters nearby while playing closer to home.

Players can make a one time purchase of 30 incenses for 1 PokeCoin to help them increase spawns from home without going outside.

Incubators are now twice as effective which will shorten the amount of steps needed to hatch eggs.

PokéStops are dropping Gifts with more often and will be in effect until further notice. This follows Pokemon GO events such as Abra Community day being postponed. In a statement release to Polygon,

“While we’ve made these updates based on the current global health situation, we also encourage players to make decisions on where to go and what to do that are in the best interest of their health and the health of their communities,” Niantic said.
