A few months back, Nintendo announced they would be forming a joint venture company with longime collaborator and mobile developer DeNA.
Now, the company has officially created under the name “Nintendo Systems”. As the name implies, the company will focus on “creating a system that facilitates the delivery of Nintendo’s entertainment to customers.”. The new official website mentions the following two points as part of its mission:
- Development and operation of systems related to the digital part of Nintendo’s business
- Planning, development and operation of new services
Presumably, this refers to non-game related services critical to Nintendo’s operations, such as the eshop, Switch Online, and Nintendo Account system. This is perhaps unsurprising, given that Nintendo worked together with DeNA previously to develop the current Nintendo Account system used by the Switch.
Recruitment for this new company is scheduled to kick off in June 2023, which means it will likely be some time before we see the effects of this joint venture on Nintendo’s operations moving forward. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
