NPD Group has announced the winners of its annual global and European Toy Industry Performance Awards, which recognizes top gaining toy properties in Europe and worldwide based on NPD group’s retail tracking service.
Under the European Awards, Nintendo managed to score a few major wins related to the Mario series. Firstly, Nintendo won the European Top Gaining Toy Property of The Year with Super Mario/Mario Kart brands. In addition, LEGO Super Mario, the collaboration between Nintendo and LEGO Group, also won Europe’s Top Gaining Toy Property by Category under the “Building Sets” category.
Nintendo’s achievements in these categories were no doubt due to the major push to promote Mario for his 35th Anniversary with products such as Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, as well as the aforementioned LEGO Super Mario.
