During the fiscal briefing for the year ending March 31, 2019, Nintendo revealed that the Switch was overall seeing larger growth and business compared to their previously successful console, Wii.
At the Q&A session for investors, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa explained why that’s the case – the digital business. As compared to Wii, there are more customers purchasing digital content on Nintendo Switch, from Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions to DLC and other games. This contributed greatly to the Switch’s growth.
Another reason Furukawa pointed out was the accessories business, where Joy-Con accessories and Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers are “selling very well”.
