Nintendo: eSports Is About The Fans, Not The Prize Money

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa briefly talked about eSports and what Nintendo is doing for eSports in the recent Kyoto News interview.

When asked about what he thought of eSports, he said Nintendo has taken into consideration the elements of eSports from the perspective of the audience and competitors into their way of making games.

The company has also organized multiple eSports events in the world last year for people of all ages. One example was Nintendo Live 2018 held in Tokyo and Kyoto.

Moving forward, Nintendo is looking into making eSports events not about “large prize money”, but to increase its “contact points” with fans.
