Nintendo has announced they will be forming a joint venture company with mobile game developer DeNA.
For those who may not be aware, DeNA is one of Nintendo’s frequent collaborators for mobile games, responsible for co-developing and running Super Mario Run, Fire Emblem Heroes, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, and Mario Kart Tour. They also worked with The Pokemon Company to produce Pokemon Masters EX.
The purpose of this new joint venture company with DeNA is to “strengthen the digitalization of Nintendo’s business”. This will involve research and development into “value-added services” to “reinforce Nintendo’s relationship with consumers”. This is most likely leveraging on DeNA’s role in integrating the Nintendo Account across the various mobile games they helped develop.
The joint venture company is scheduled to form officially in April 2023, meaning we probably will not see the results of this move for quite some time.
