Nintendo Explains Why The Switch Won’t Boom And Bust Like The Wii

During this Friday’s Nintendo Q&A session for investors, an investor asked why the Nintendo Switch will not boom and bust like the Wii back in its heyday.

Nintendo President and Global CEO Shuntaro Furukawa responded to the investor that the Wii was a game console for everyone to play. During the shortages, people wanted to try it out at least once, hence that attributed to the Wii’s explosive growth.

Later, Furukawa elaborated that the Switch is fundamentally different from the Wii. Unlike the Wii which was primarily driven by the pack-in game Wii Sports, there are many appealing first party and third party titles driving growth for Nintendo Switch. Furukawa believes the Switch’s library of high quality games will help it to capture growth.

Although the Switch won’t see as many casual players that the Wii captured, it has a chance of overtaking its install base in the next few years, assuming it can keep up with the growth.
