Nintendo Labo Director Shares Thoughts On Labo VR’s Development
In an interview with the Verge, Labo director Tsubasa Sakaguchi shared more of his experience working with Labo, and integrating it with VR technology.
According to Sakaguchi, Nintendo had been toying around with developing some kind of Virtual Reality experience long before they even thought of creating the Labo VR. However, that prior research made it a lot easier for the VR kit to be developed once they did hit upon the idea, which seemed like a perfect blend of technology and accessibility.
“We’re always looking for that one overlap of ‘technology meets familiar and accessible,’” Sakaguchi says. “When we thought about that little overlap, we thought the concept of Nintendo Labo and VR would be a great match.”
That said, Sakaguchi acknowledged that Labo isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. However, he hopes that more players will at least give it a try as he believes that Labo is something that must really be experienced in order to be understood fully.
“We’re not focused on the passive playing experience, but more of the emotion that’s evoked when you create your own controllers and play the games,” he says. “At the end of the day, you have to experience it to get it.”
The Labo VR Kit is available now for Nintendo Switch.
