Various online services across Nintendo’s platforms are currently down, according to Nintendo’s official website.
Due to this, players are currently unable to access the eShop, download new games, or do anything that requires Nintendo’s online services. This is occurring not only for Switch but for WiiU, and 3DS as well.
Currently, the reason for this remains unknown, with the official website showing the following statement as of this writing:
Unable to connect to the network service.
Please try again later.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
That said, Nintendo seems to be aware of the issue, and is working on bringing functionality back as soon as possible.
We will bring more updates as they come.
[UPDATE]: According to some sources, the reason for the outage is because the APIs necessary for Nintendo’s online play are reporting DNS failures. This could mean it will take a bit more time to resolve the issue.
