Nintendo Playstation Prototype To Be Put Up For Auction In February 2020
Earlier this year, we reported that Terry Diebold, the owner of one of the last remaining prototypes of Nintendo’s Playstation, announced his plans to put it up for sale at an auction.
Today, it has been confirmed that the auction will be held via Heritage Auction on 27th February 2020. Diebold originally acquired the prototype at a property lot auction in 2009, and had been touring the world showing off the console at various gaming expos since 2015.
In an email to Kotaku, Diebold shared a bit more about his reasons for selling off the console, which was mainly due to the massive expenses and debt he accumulated from the aforementioned tours:
“I can’t keep losing money, I’ve put a lot of work into this by travelling with it and we have made nothing on it. Every trip that we… have taken with it has cost us money out of pocket.”
“We turned down 1.2 million from someone in Norway,” Diebold said. He said that after paying taxes on that amount, splitting the remainder 50-50 with his son, and paying off all his outstanding debts, he “will pretty much end up with nothing.”
