Nintendo has released a transcript of the Q&A portion of their most recent shareholders meeting, which contains some interesting info about the long rumored successor to the Nintendo Switch.
As shared via Genki on Twitter, Nintendo’s president Shuntaro Furukawa mentioned that the company plans to use the same Nintendo Account system being currently used for the Switch for the next generation console. This is to allow current customers to have a smooth transition over to the new console.
This is perhaps one of the few times Furukawa has acknowledged that a Switch successor is in the works at Nintendo, if somewhat indirectly. Presumably, this implies that the Switch’s successor might have some level of backwards compatibility, as digital games are tied to players’ Nintendo Accounts. That said, we will likely not know for sure until Nintendo shares more information.
