Following Nintendo’s big financial report for Q2 2018/2019, company president Shuntaro Furukawa made some important comments.
Speaking from Osaka, Furukawa highlighted the company’s plans for the rest of the financial year. In particular, he mentions pushing more DLC for Nintendo’s big games, and introducing more game genres to the Nintendo Switch library.
“We need continuous growth. We must keep releasing new software. That includes DLCs and other contents for big titles that are already out. And more focus on online play. Lastly, more genres and diverse games to draw in people who don’t currently play on Switch.”
Additionally, Furukawa also emphasized the following points (courtesy of tech reporter Yuji Nakamura):
- All of Nintendo’s holiday titles have already been announced, with no more surprises for the rest of 2018.
- Nintendo has no esports business plans, yet.
- Nintendo’s IP will not make an appearance in the mobile game Dragalia Lost.
- Over 50% of Nintendo Switch Online users bought the annual plan.
- Fortnite is still performing well on Nintendo Switch.
With no suprises on the horizon, it seems like Nintendo will be banking hard on Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Let’s hope the holiday season really brings the company the windfall it’s seeking.
