Nintendo Reportedly “Cagey” About Approving Games For Switch 2 eShop To Avoid “Slop”

Some new behind the scenes info about Nintendo’s approval process for the eShop has surfaced online.

Outlet RPG Site recently published an interview with indie games publisher New Blood Interactive’s CEO Dave Oshry. Discussing porting games to different platforms, Oshry began talking about the challenges posed by the certification process for console releases. One release is a port of the first-person shooter DUSK to Nintendo Switch 2, which Oshry says is stuck in the approval process because Nintendo is “cagey” about what games they release on the console, saying that they “don’t want it to just become a giant slop fest like the Switch 1 eShop became”.

“We’re just waiting for Nintendo to give us approval to actually launch it [DUSK] because they’re still pretty cagey about letting games launch on Switch 2 They don’t want it to just become a giant slop fest like the Switch 1 eShop became after a few years with just tons of shovelware on there. They’re still pretty choosy about who gets to launch their games on Switch 2.”

As Oshry mentioned, the Switch became somewhat infamous in the later years of its life for the sheer amount of low quality games that were flooding the eShop, no doubt thanks to its overall popularity as a platform. It is reassuring to know that Nintendo is being more careful with curation this time around.
