Beyond heavy hitters like Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon, Nintendo has a wide variety of franchises that don’t quite see the same levels of success commercially.
During their latest financial results briefing, Nintendo showed off how the Switch has been a game changer for many of these lesser known franchises. As highlighted in the chart below, the the Switch has enabled massive growth for Pikmin, Kirby, Metroid, and Xenoblade Chronicles, with the Switch titles selling more than double or triple compared to their Wii U and 3DS titles.
At least part of this success can be attributed to the Switch’s massive install base, which it accumulated over its 7 years on the market. Only time will tell whether this momentum will continue into its successor when it releases.
