Famitsu has released a report on the state of Japan’s video game industry in 2017.
According to the report, video game hardware and software sales have increased by 130.8% in 2017. Famitsu attributes this to the launch of the Nintendo Switch, which has been a big hit in Japan. The console sold 3.4 million systems in 2017. Among the top 10 software titles sold in Japan last year, 9 out of 10 are games released on a Nintendo platform.
Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (3DS) has raked in 2,003,607 copies, followed by Splatoon 2 (Switch) at 1,752,096, Dragon Quest XI (3DS) at 1,744,603, Monster Hunter XX (3DS) at 1,684,991, Dragon Quest XI (PS4) at 1,336,180, Super Mario Odyssey (Switch) at 1,324,280, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Switch) at 1,103,744, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch) at 688,044, Pokemon Sun and Moon (3DS) at 576,506, and finally Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS at 423,073.
