Nintendo Switch Eshop Set To “Limited Service” In Russia

Nintendo of Europe has shared a new update about eshop operations in Russia.

The statement was reported via Game Developer, and states that the Switch eshop has been set to “Limited Service” in Russia as of May 31st 2023. This means that players living in the region will no longer be able to make new purchases or use download codes in the Russian eshop, only redownload digital content they have purchased previously.

As a result of the economic outlook, Nintendo of Europe has decided to wind down operations of its Russian subsidiary. As part of our efforts to honor preceding commitments to our customers in the Russian market, the Russian version of Nintendo eShop will be set to offer limited service.

As of May 31, 2023, and for the foreseeable future, Russian customers with an existing Nintendo Account will be able to redownload digital content that they have previously purchased. It will not be possible to make any new purchases or use download codes within [the] Nintendo eShop in Russia.”

This move appears to be the next stage in Nintendo’s winding down of operations in Russia, following the suspension of payments last year. Stay tuned for more updates on the situation as it comes.
