In the past few weeks, Nintendo Switch sales have stayed consistently at the top, moving 70,000 to 100,000 units every week in Japan.
This however, drastically changed last week. According to Media Create, the hybrid system moved only 22,154 units. This is far lesser than the number of units moved a week before last week – 77,146 units.
Due to the sharp drop in units sold, the Nintendo Switch has lost its winning streak. It had consistently remained on top of the hardware sales charts for months. The PS4 took over the top position last week, moving 39,970 units.
Is there anything to worry about this development? It looks like Nintendo didn’t send out much stock to retailers, as big retailers such as Bic Camera and Yodobashi didn’t organize any Switch lotteries last weekend. They were probably saving up for this week.
It’d be interesting to see how much the Nintendo Switch has sold this week, since Monster Hunter XX Nintendo Switch Ver. released on Friday in Japan. We’ll get those numbers in next week!
