The United Kingdom’s competition authority, the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), has launched an investigation into online subscription models by Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft.
The CMA is looking into whether Nintendo’s auto-renewal, cancellation, and refund policies for Nintendo Switch Online are unfair. They have kicked off the investigation by formally requesting for information from Nintendo, and wants customers to come forward to share their experiences with them.
Depending on the results of the investigation, the CMA is prepared to take action if they find consumers are not fairly treated under consumer protection law.
