Nintendo has revised their guidelines related to sharing video and images from their games online.

These revisions were added on 2nd September 2024, and places some additional rules regarding what Nintendo will and will not allow when it comes to sharing media related to their games. The three major revisions are as follows:

1. Nintendo has a right to object to any content they believe “is unlawful, infringing, inappropriate, or not in line with the guidelines” and to blacklist or take legal action against the offender.
2. The following types of shared content are no longer allowed, with the exception of media created using Nintendo’s official Share button:
   • Reuploads of official game trailers, music, or cutscenes without additional input from the content creator
   • Uploads of gameplay footage without additional commentary or editing
3. The following types of content are now considered “inappropriate” under the guidelines:
   • Content that shows the usage of unauthorized methods such as third-party emulator software, cheats, and data mining.
   • Content that features malicious acts such as making offensive remarks or deliberately sabotaging someone else’s gameplay experience during multiplayer

Nintendo is well-known for being very strict towards content creation involving their games and IP. While some of these rules are fairy reasonable, others are likely to rub players and content creators the wrong way. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
