Nintendo’s budget for television advertising continued to be conservative this month, as its competitors rolled ahead with flashy new consoles and titles.
According to VentureBeat, Sony once again emerged as the biggest spender for TV gaming adverts and most-viewed gaming brand on on TV during November 2020 – with an estimated spend of $26.2 million to promote the PS5, resulting in 966.2 million TV ad impressions. The second biggest spender and second most-viewed gaming brand on TV was Microsoft, which spent $10.6 million and obtained a total of 346.4 million TV ad impressions.
Meanwhile, Nintendo emerged as the third biggest spender on gaming TV ads and the third most-viewed gaming brand on TV during November. Here are more details below:
- Nintendo spent $7 million on 32 spots that aired over 1,500 times
- This resulted in 323.7 million TV ad impressions for Nintendo
- “Imagination” promoting Mario Kart Live Home Circuit (seen below), was the top commercial by spend (estimated at $1.3 million)
- Nick, Fox, and ABC were the top networks by outlay
- Top programming included SpongeBob SquarePants, The Loud House, and the NFL
