The Nintendo World Championships are making a comeback this year! The competition will be taking place on October 7, 2017 in New York at Manhattan Center’s Grand Ballroom.
Classic and modern Nintendo games will be used as a barometer to test out the skills of players during the Championships. Beginning on August 19th, select Best Buy stores will host qualifying events in the United States.
Players will be divided into two groups based on their age, and play Mario Kart 7 for Nintendo 3DS. The first group (12 and below) will play as Mario on the Nintendo DS “Luigi’s Mansion” course using Standard Kart, Standard Wheels and Super Glider. The second group (13 and older) will play as Bowser on the Game Boy Advance “Bowser Castle 1” course using Standard Kart, Standard Wheels and Super Glider. At the end of the 2 day event, the player with the best time trial entry will proceed to the Nintendo World Championships.
Demo stations for Super Mario Odyssey (Nintendo Switch) and Metroid: Samus Returns (Nintendo 3DS) will be present at the qualifying events. My Nintendo account holders will be able to recieve 100 Platinum points by checking in with their QR code at the event, and the first 200 members to check in daily will receive a My Nintendo pin.
More details on how to get tickets for the final event will be released in the coming weeks.
