Nine years ago, Nintendo launched the Nintendo Switch, a hybrid handheld home console that took the world by storm, becoming the third best selling videogame console of all time at the time of this writing.
According to analyst game sales analyst Pierre485, Nintendo’s Switch era has been more profitable for the company than that of its other consoles combined. As illustrated in the chart below, Nintendo’s profits during the years of the Switch’s release (2016 to present), far exceed profits from its previous console generations (1981 and 2016). Previously, it’s most profitable era was the Wii (2007 to 2010), which has been surpassed several times over in the past few years of Switch.
With the Switch’s successor on its way, it will be interesting to see if Nintendo can continue this momentum into its next console generation. Stay tuned for more updates as they come.
