Official Nintendo Websites Banned In China

Update: Our friend Chinese Nintendo has mentioned to us that residents living in China have no issues with accessing both nintendo.com and nintendo.co.jp without a VPN. He suggested that the website block tester could be inaccurate.

In China, the government blocks users from accessing certain websites on the Internet for various reasons through the Great Firewall.

One of the websites that have been banned in China is interestingly, the official Nintendo website. The ban applies to both nintendo.com (Nintendo of America’s website) and nintendo.co.jp (Nintendo Co Ltd’s website). The ban, however, does not affect the official Nintendo Hong Kong, Nintendo of Korea, and Nintendo UK websites.

The Great Firewall could be easily circumvented through the use of a VPN, though your mileage might vary.

You can try testing what website works in China here.

What do you think?
