Pokemon GO Safari Zone Tainan, which took place last week in Tainan, Taiwan, has turned out to be a huge success.
According to Yahoo Japan News, over 1 million people visited Tainan during the Pokemon GO Safari Zone. This not only includes trainers from Taiwan, but even tourists from countries such as Japan, Thailand, South Korea, Australia, and far away countries in the west.
It’s also mentioned that tourists who have come to Tainan did so for the very first time thanks to the event. It’s a prefecture rarely visited by tourists from overseas. Also, it’s the first time many Pokemon GO trainers have stepped foot on Taiwan.
The Tainan government and event organizers initially expected 200,000 people to turn up for the event, but as 1 million people (5 times the initial projection) attended the event, it was a huge shock to them. This really shows how big the appeal of Pokemon is, and how beneficial Safari Zone is for local businesses and tourism.
