Earlier this year, two official Animal Crossing: New Horizons guidebooks were released in Japan, and surprisingly they have done pretty well.
As of August 19, 2020, both books have sold a combined total of over 730,000 units in Japan. This is of course pretty impressive, given that we are now in the age of game guide websites.
There is also some speculation to why the guidebooks have done so well – online sites simply don’t have a complete catalog of every single piece of furniture and clothing, whereas the guidebooks have everything, including high quality pictures of every single item in the game.
