Earlier this year, developer Pocket Pair released Palworld, a monster taming survival crafting game that took the gaming community by storm, mostly due to the strong resemblance the game’s monsters have with Pokemon.
The resemblance to Pokemon was a particular point of contention amongst fans, with accusations of plagiarism growing so heated that The Pokemon Company eventually made a statement addressing the issue. In this statement, The Pokemon Company said they would “investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights”.
However, in a recent interview with Game File , Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe said that the Pokemon Company never followed up on this veiled legal threat, at least for the time being.
“[We heard] nothing at all. Nintendo and the Pokémon Company didn’t say anything to us.”
Mizobe also briefly discussed the possibility of Palworld coming to Switch. Despite the potential legal trouble, Mizobe had a more practical perspective on the matter, stating that it would be unlikely moreso due to the technical limitations of the Switch hardware, as Palworld’s minimum requirements for PC exceeds the power of the Switch.
“So maybe it’s hard to port to Switch just for technical reasons,”
