Last month, PlatinumGames’ Hideki Kamiya and Atsushi Inaba sat down for an interview with VideoGamesChronicle where they answered questions about their upcoming projects such as Project G.G. and Bayonetta 3.
During this interview, Kamiya and Inaba made some interesting comments about Project G.G. that could shed some light on why they have been relatively quiet about Bayonetta 3. According to the pair, since Project G.G. is a self-published title, they have a lot more freedom to share details about it. However, for titles they are not publishing, they are more restricted by the publisher’s decisions.
Kamiya: Also, since we’re self-publishing [Project G.G.], there are no publishers to get mad at me this time, so I’ll be sharing things online, putting up screenshots whenever I like…
Inaba: I’ll get mad at you!
We don’t have that much say over projects that we’re not publishing. And we understand different titles require different approaches, so we respect the publisher’s decisions.
So if there is a difference between what we want to do with Project G.G. versus what we normally do with our other titles, it’s not really a criticism for those publishers: we respect their approaches. But for this title especially, our approach as a company is that we’re hoping to be more open.
These comments could suggest that the reason PlatinumGames is unable to share more information about Bayonetta 3 is because the game is published by Nintendo, who has the final say in what information the developer is allowed to share about it. Although largely speculation, it would not be too surprising if this is indeed the case, given Nintendo has recently adopted a more hush-hush approach to its upcoming releases.
