The Pokemon Center store serving the UK and Germany has been affected by a data breach.
Specifically, the target of the data breach was CEVA Logistics, a logistics firm that handles shipping for the Pokemon Center in Europe, along with other companies like Steam owner Valve. Reports have surfaced that Pokemon Center customers from the UK and Germany who placed orders from The Pokemon Center have had their personal data stolen, which CEVA had initially collected to facilitate it deliveries.
Customers affected by the breach were sent emails informing them of the situation, and also that their orders had been cancelled as a result. The notification from TPC says that the leaked info includes “full names, mailing addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and details about contents of the orders”. Payment info was not breached however, as it was not shared with CEVA. TPC is also “in conversation” with CEVA to receive updates about the situation and how further incidents will be prevented, as well as investigating their own systems to ensure they were not affected.
Affected customers who had their orders cancelled were not charged for the order, and are being compensated with a 20% coupon valid until 30th November. It is likely to be of little comfort to some unlucky customers however, as some orders would have contained the coveted 30th Anniversary Pokemon merch that’s being sold this year, and there is no guarantee that these items are still in stock.
