Pokemon Duel, which launched worldwide several months ago, will sadly be exiting the Netherlands after 10 Jaunary 2019.
Due to the Netherlands recently banning lootboxes and similar items, the smartphone game will no longer operate there. This is unsurprising, given that Pokemon Duel’s “Booster Packs” offer new figurines randomly – and thus represent a form of gambling. The game will no longer offer Booster Packs for sale to Netherlands players after 10 December 2018.
While unfortunate for Pokemon Duel players in the Netherlands, at least they still have Pokemon GO. It remains to be seen if other smartphone titles like Fire Emblem Heroes will be adversely hit by these same laws.
