Last week, The Pokemon Company released ports of Pokemon FireRed And LeafGreen for the Switch, giving a new generation of fans another chance to experience the games on an official Nintendo console.
Although mostly a 1:1 port, fans have been discovering small but welcome enhancements included in the new release. One recent discovery is that the Switch version patches out a major glitch with the three Legendary Beasts Entei, Raikou, and Suicune.
Depending on which Starter Pokemon the player chose, one of these Legendary Pokemon would appear as a roaming encounter after defeating the Elite Four. This means that players would have to hunt them down across the map by running through the tall grass or wherever random encounters could be found. However, in the original games, there was a bug where if the roaming Legendary used the move Roar to drive the player away, they would disappear from the game permanently with no way to encounter them again.
Thanks to testing from fans, we now know that this bug has been fixed in the Switch version of FireRed And LeafGreen. Should the Legendary Beast use Roar, they can still be tracked through the Pokedex and encountered again in the Switch release, unlike in the original.
While still an annoying method of capturing a Legendary, this is a welcome change that makes the effort a lot less anxiety inducing.
