Pokemon Scarlet/Violet Paldea Region Introduced, Multiple Story Paths Confirmed

During the recent Pokemon Presents, The Pokemon Company shared more details about the region that Pokemon Scarlet And Violet takes place in, as well as more about the game’s story.

Firstly, the region is called Paldea, which is home to a prestigious school: The Naranja Academy in Scarlet, and the Uva Academy in Violet. Player takes the role of a student at this school, participating in an independent study assignment called the Treasure Hunt. This overarching quest will take the player all over the Paldea region, leading them to encounter various characters along the way, such as fellow students Arven and Penny, as well as gym leaders like the Ice-Type specialist Grusha.

In a first for the Pokemon series, the Gym Challenge is only one of three different story paths that the player can follow, and players can choose to switch between progressing each of the three story paths as they see fit. For the Gym Challenge specifically, players will have to defeat eight gyms and complete a special test called the Champion Assessment before they can be granted the rank of Champion. In another first for the series, gyms can be done in any order, and players can choose to specifically seek out the strongest gym or challenge ones that are close by.
