In less than a day, Pokemon Scarlet And Violet will be launched worldwide, ushering a new era in the series’ storied history.
In an interview conducted by Oricon News with The Pokemon Company’s Chief Operating Officer Takato Utsunomiya, the company revealed that the games have already broken a new record for the franchise. According to Utsunomiya, Pokemon Scarlet And Violet have become the most pre-ordered games in the series’ history, although it is not clear if he meant worldwide or for Japan alone.
We’re delighted to announce that [Pokémon Scarlet and Violet] has already become the most pre-ordered game in the Pokémon series’ history. We are looking forward to bring the game to everyone tomorrow.
Assuming that he is only talking about Japanese pre-orders, this would mean that Scarlet And Violet have surpassed the previous record holder Black and White‘s 1.88 million pre-order units, as recorded by Media Create. If he was referring to global pre-orders, then the number is likely much much higher.
Stay tuned for more details as they come.
