Chrales, the dataminer known for digging out secrets from Pokemon GO updates, has discovered something interesting.
The latest version 0.143.0 update for Pokemon GO contains a string called “koala_settings”, which Chrales speculates to have something to do with the app. What makes this so interesting is the codename “koala” – it could be Pokemon Sword and Shield’s official internal codename.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see it happening though, as Pokemon Let’s GO Pikachu/Eevee’s codename was Beluga (a whale) and Pokemon Black 2/White 2 had the codename Swan. All these codenames refer to animals. Of course there were some codenames such as the one for Pokemon Sun/Moon, Niji, that don’t refer to animals.
If Koala does refer to Pokemon Sword and Shield, it means Pokemon GO would have some form of connectivity with Sword and Shield in the future. We’ll have to wait and see.
